APRIL 20th - Construction Update:  The two greenside bunkers on #2 are finished!  The bunker on #6 has sand added and two strips of sod around the edge to prevent soil contamination.  Finally the fairway bunker on #2 is ready for sand which will be delivered Monday.  The remaining sod is being delivered Monday morning and all the construction work should be finishing up.  Come out over the weekend and check out the improvements!

APRIL 15th

A very busy week here at BMCC!  The weather was perfect to get the ball rolling on our construction projects, here are a few photos...

Bunker roughed in and edged on #2

Bunker drainage being added Thursday afternoon.  Right now the two greenside bunkers on #2 are drained, the fairway bunker on #2 and lone bunker on #6 will be drained this week.

A view from the new #18 Championship Tee Box. Thursday afternoon 14 pallets of sod were laid, 9 more Friday morning.

A look at the new tee complex on #18 from #14 green.  We ran short on Bentgrass sod, but will finish the area up early in the week.  We spread a starter fertilizer on the prepped area before sodding, this will help the sod establish.

All of the new yardage plates have been installed on the Tee Boxes.   A very sharp improvement!
Please continue checking in for new updates of the construction and course conditions.  Enjoy the weekend!
APRIL1st
Greens Aerification – A bit earlier than usual!  The spring warm-up has ratcheted the soil temperatures up near an optimum root-growing temperature.  That and the fact that we will be taking on the regrassing portion of the upcoming tee and bunker construction deem it wise to move up the greens aerification date.  Weather permitting, the greens will be aerified and topdressed April 2nd & 3rd.

As a reminder, we do not pull cores out of the greens in the spring.  The holes in the greens are slightly larger, but less numerous.  The time required for complete healing is minimal and the greens should putt real well soon after the process.
MARCH 31st
The construction on the new championship tee on #18 and revamping the bunkers on holes #2 and #6 is scheduled to begin on April 9th.  In preparation of this work, we have made use of the quality sod from those areas.  Next, the areas were sprayed with a non-selective herbicide.  All of the sprayed turf will die and we plan to rototill the sod into the topsoil.  This is more efficient that stripping the sod and paying for its’ disposal.

During the bunker construction process (for safety reasons and to not delay progress), we may ask our members to use a temporary green for a short period of time on #2 and #6.  In each case, this shouldn’t be for more than 2-3 days.  Much will depend on the weather and the level of play we are experiencing during the construction period.

MARCH 23rd
Record Spring Warmth
Wow, what an amazing warm-up this spring.  I’m not sure how best to put it in perspective.  In 142 years of records, there had only been 10 March days that hit 80 degrees.  We’ve had 8 this month; what took 142 years to happen once, nearly took place a second time in a recent 10-day period.  We also set a record high temperature on 9 consecutive days.

First mowing: March 13th.  Victor Mendoza stripes the 1st green.  The turf is still off color at this point.

What a difference a week makes; notice the significant green-up and the flowering trees.
